Six parents. That's how many I saw at P/T Conferences. 10:30-6:30: Six parents. Six! Last year, I at least got close to ten. But, six?! Oh well. I got a lot done, like planning and finishing Slaughterhouse Five. Yep.
Wednesday was the first meeting of COMP (the workshop for 2nd year teachers). LONGEST DAY OF MY LIFE. It was a repeat of BEST (1st year teacher workshop last year) and alllll of my ed college courses. Plus, the woman treated us like children! Seriously, she lectured us and gave grown people "teacher looks" (similar to a "parent look"). The Granby table of teachers were the worst behaved-- we totally got split up. hah! We were passing notes, being very critical, giggling, etc. Bad, bad teachers. Oh well. We were trying not to fall asleep or scream in agony. Our biggest complaint, beyond what I already mentioned of it being a repeat of everything we already know, was that the first speaker wasn't following what she was telling us to do with our own students. Gotta love it, right?
Thursday morning, I got stuck in traffic for an hour. A whole hour! I didn't get to school until 7:35 (the tardy bell rings at 7:25). There was a multi-car crash in the tunnel, and I was stuck right near it for 30+ minutes. It took another 30 minutes to get through the tunnel and to Granby. ugh! Thank goodness I don't have a 2nd bell!
Friday was actually pretty good. The kids were a little wound up because it was the end of Spirit Week, and there was a Pep Rally for Homecoming at the end of the day. I was a little irritated with my 7th bell when they whined about me making them do their journal.
I'm glad this week's over. Now, I take a walk.

Yeah, why don't parents come to parent-teacher conferences any more?
It's not that parents aren't coming to conferences- my parents aren't coming. Other teachers had many students, but most of them teach classes with mixed Reg/Honors/IB students, whereas I just teach regular English. Teachers who have Honors/IB students in their classes usually see a lot more parents.
